Wearing the Barcelona
jersey was the dream of a boy born in Catalonia in 1987.
His name was Gerard.
Gerard Pique.
A name that for many
years was cheered at the "Camp Nou", and unfortunately, recently it
was flooded.
Although he had to leave
home for a few years – leaving for Manchester United, he did not give up on his
dreams of breaking into the first team.
Pique fled to England as
a child and returned as a man.
The tall, not only
became a regular starter, but became a club legend.
First with Carles Pyol
and then with Javier Mascherano, Gerard became one of the most important
figures in Barça.
While, it was part of
the highest and lowest point that Barcelona went through.
The iconic celebration
at the "Santiago Bernabeu" showing with his hand how many goals they
had scored against their sworn rivals and the "replay" of that
celebration at the "Camp Nou" are just two of the most iconic moments
that Pique will be remembered for.
Although in recent years
he has had fluctuating form, his love and dedication to the club is never in
doubt.
Every time he appeared
on the pitch, Pique gave his best, even playing injured - as he did many times
last season.
Fortunately, Barcelona
has two giants like Araujo and Kounde in the defensive department, who have the
talent, ego and passion to start a long path of trophies.
A journey which Pique
will complete on Saturday - with 30 trophies in his drawer.
