Gerard Romero, a well-known Spanish journalist, claims that Barcelona is interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong. The right-back from Bayer Leverkusen, age 21, is one of five players the Catalan club is considering this summer.
Since moving from Celtic to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021, Jeremie Frimpong has established a solid foundation. The Dutch full-back has played for Manchester City and Celtic in the past, but his career has soared in the last 18 months since he switched to the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old has played for Bayer Leverkusen 50 times so far, contributing two goals and nine assists. Additionally, some of the most well-known clubs in Europe, notably Barcelona, have taken notice of Frimpong's development and have expressed interest in signing him during the summer transfer window.
Cesar Azpilicueta was a target for Barcelona during the current transfer window. The Chelsea captain also appeared to be joining the Blaugrana for a few weeks before he turned them down.
Sergino Dest is no longer needed at Camp Nou, thus the Catalan powerhouses must sign a world-class right-back this summer. Additionally, according to Gerard Romero, Barcelona is now interested in five possibilities, including Thomas Meunier, Juan Foyth, Diogo Dalot, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
As one of the top right-backs in the Bundesliga at age 21, Frimpong is also a possible target for Barcelona. If the Dutch defender lasts a decade and replaces Dani Alves at Camp Nou, he could offer the best years of his career. He will join Barcelona in top form.
It is still unknown who Barcelona's top target on the recently created shortlist is. Frimpong, though, is a strong contender to bolster the Blaugrana's right-back group before the summer transfer window closes. It would be interesting to watch how the 21-year-old performs after just 18 months with Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen.
