Journalist Isaac Fouto of COPE reports that Robert Lewandowski, a top player for Barcelona, has received a three-match suspension after receiving a red card last week against CA Osasuna.
The Polish international received two cautions during the contest and made a gesture as he left the field that he later claimed was directed at Xavi.
According to RAC1, Lewandowski received a three-game suspension for "contempt and ignoring" the referee.
All of which implies that when domestic play returns after the World Cup, La Liga's leading scorer will miss the matches against Espanyol, Atlético de Madrid, and Getafe.
At halftime of the game, substitute Gerard Pique also received a red card for arguing to the referee; he has reportedly been suspended for four games. Naturally, that is irrelevant because he has since put his boots away.
Barcelona is expected to challenge the ruling, but there is no assurance that the suspension will be shortened.
When the Poland international is absent, Barça frequently struggles to deliver in the final third. Furthermore, playing without Lewandowski could make it difficult to navigate games against challenging opponents like Atletico Madrid and Real Betis.
