Ousmane Dembele and Jules Kounde are the only two Barcelona players left at the World Cup after France defeated Morocco in today’s semifinal fixture.
Barcelona had three players left in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as of the start of the semifinal round as Abde Ezzalzouli’s Morocco were still in the chase for the well coveted trophy.
The two Frenchmen, the only Barcelona players to go to the World Cup final, will take on an Argentina squad that features former Barça wonder Lionel Messi.
On the other hand, Abde Ezzalzouli's Morocco team was unable to repeat the victories they had over Spain and Portugal in the previous stages. They simply weren't as effective defensively and had conceded to Theo Hernandez's opening goal.
Abde along with Dembele had chances where they managed to sprint at their opponent’s defence but none resulted to a goal as the game had Jules Kounde as the only Barça player who made a notable impact with his late off-the-line clearance after good play from Abde.
Morocco struggled to have much of an influence as Kounde and company held onto their relative strength. The right-back position of the Barça player has been crucial to France's success in this World Cup.
Similar to how Karim Benzema and Christopher Nkunku were absent, Dembele was essential to Les Bleus' offense.
The two must now overcome the formidable obstacle posed by Argentina, who have excelled in this tournament despite losing to Saudi Arabia in the first game. On Sunday at the Lusail Stadium, the two footballing behemoths will square off.
