FC Barcelona in the World Cup Semis

With France's victory over England to go to the World Cup semifinals, just Dembele and Kounde remain as representatives of Barcelona in Qatar.

Kounde played the full ninety plus minutes while Dembouz was replaced by Coman ten minutes before the end of the game. They both played quite well.

Kounde and Dembele are the only two Blaugrana representatives still in the running for the much coveted trophy after Raphinha, Memphis Depay, and Frenkie de Jong experienced heartbreaks the day before.

France advanced to their second consecutive World Cup semifinal with a 2-1 victory over England.

Jules Kounde and Ousmane Dembele, both from Barca, were on the victorious team tonight.

Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud scored for the defending champions, who also benefited from a late Harry Kane penalty miss.

Kounde discussed the game afterward and gave an explanation of why he believed his squad had the upper hand over the Three Lions.

“I think it was a crazy match, with lots of twists and turns. And in the end, there is the victory, so it’s even more beautiful. We certainly didn’t do everything well, but we put so much heart, so much desire, there was so much solidarity, a whole group that really wanted to go to the semi-finals,” he said.

“We gave everything […] The difference was in the state of mind. I think that since the start of the competition, we have underlined how close this group is on the pitch, and off it too.”

“I think that in matches like that, where you play against a very good England team, which surely have as much talent as us, you need that extra soul, that little something, that little bit of luck like the missed penalty.”

The squad that has been the biggest shock of the tournament thus far, defeating Spain and Portugal en route to the semifinals, will now face France.

“This is where we wanted to be. Morocco are doing a very good job, they have eliminated very big teams, so it will be a very complicated match,” he said.

“We expect it. It’s a team that also gives everything, that has a lot of heart, with a lot of talent.”

Kounde is aware that his side will face a difficult challenge in trying to win the competition a second time.

In the other semifinal, Croatia will face Argentina on Tuesday, while France will play Morocco on Wednesday, where they’ll face another FC Barcelona player in Ez Abde, although currently on loan at Osasuna.
