Sergio Busquets confirms his desire to leave Barcelona

Veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets has told Barcelona that he wants to leave the club in January. Xavi Hernández, however, wants the 34-year-old to stay for the rest of the season.

Busquets’ contract is set to expire in June, and the Spanish international wants to leave for the US. Recently, he has been linked with David Beckham-owned Inter Miami but it’s yet to be confirmed whether the midfielder has held talks with the American club.

According to Sport, Sergio Busquets could remain at Camp Nou for further six months and leave in December 2023.

Fans are disappointed with the Spaniard’s lacklustre performances at the World Cup and have pleaded Barcelona not to renew the player.

On the other hand, head coach Xavi wants Busquets to stay until he finds a midfielder to fill the veteran’s boots.

Sergio Busquets made his first team debut in 2008, and has since made over 650 appearances for the Catalan club. He has won three Champions Leagues and eight La Liga titles with Barcelona, and is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of his time.
