Back-to-Back Disappointments in Europe and La Liga

Adding to the woes of a disappointing UEL exit, Barcelona have lost against 19th place  Almeria in a rather important La Liga fixture.

Last Thursday saw Barca miss out on UEL Round of 16 after facing a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in Old Trafford.

And now, in what should have been an easy victory against Almeria, the Catalan giants have failed to register a single point last night as the away fixture ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Blaugranas.

Xavi's Barcelona, who still sit at the top of La Liga with 59 points, failed to find the back of the net in a frustrating display.

Barcelona backline ace Ronald Araújo was benched ahead of the game, as reports claim the Uruguayan defender had experienced major discomfort in the scars from his previous surgery. Nonetheless, he was subbed in during the later stages of the game but a disappointing display from the squad resulted in a 1-0 loss.

Real Madrid, who had drawn against Athleti in the Madrid derby, have now moved within 7 points of the Catalan giants - courtesy of last night's defeat.

With instrumental interiors such as Pedri and Demebele missing for the coming ties, Barcelona's current situation spurs concern as they are set to take down Real Madrid on Thursday in the first leg of Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Pablo Gavira will be suspended for the next league fixture for the accumulation of cards, and that sure is another problem on top of their current woes.

Will Barcelona be able to cover up for their missing aces and truly take down the Los Blancos? Remains to be seen on Thursday.
